The Organic Store is a retail arm of the The BHU Organics Trust. We are a Charitable trust and in a joint venture with Lincoln University and the New Zealand Organic movement. The BHU is dedicated to providing education, training and research in organic, ecological, permanent and related agricultures and horticultures.
There are three main sections within the trust:
- The BHU Organic Training College.
- The BHU Future Farming Centre, which delivers science and extension for agriculture and horticulture.
- These are supported by The BHU Farm, situated at Lincoln University, and overseen by the Trust Board.
What is the BHU?
The Biological Husbandry Unit (BHU) was established in 1976 and in August 2001 was relaunched as the BHU Organics Trust. It is a charitable trust comprising representatives of organisations and farmers involved in organic agriculture and sustainable farming. The BHU farm covers an area of 10 ha, it features a diverse range of established model organic agricultural and horticultural systems that are used for research, demonstration and education.
What is the Mission of the BHU Trust?
“To research, demonstrate and promote organic systems and the opportunities to apply the learning to all agricultural systems, through education and training, research and development, demonstration models and consultancy”.
What is the Vision of the BHUOT?
The vision is to become a centre of excellence in vocational training for organic and more sustainable land based production systems – combining demonstration, research, advisory services, commercial production and education in a unique holistic way.
